The Proposal

She wasn't expecting it.

I left school early and rushed home to meet Thomas Becker, a very talented musician friend of ours, and wait for Claire to arrive.  I told her we had plans to eat with Thomas and his wife Liz for dinner.  Claire was prepared for a nice dinner but what greeted her was more of a surprise than she was ready for.

When I (Claire) got to Jeff's house I knew right away that something was different.  All around his living room were papers, receipts  pictures, and programs.  As I looked closer I realized they were numbered off the first number told me to take a deep breath. As I worked my way through the numbers I recognized each number, and corresponding item, as something Jeff and I had done together over the past 18 months.  From our community theater plays to our day trip to Blue Heron it was all there--he had saved it all.

The last number she got to had specific instructions.  It told her to have a seat in the next room, to do it without looking and to wait until she heard music to open her eyes.  She followed the instructions perfectly.  Once she was seated Thomas and I played "This is dedicated to the one I love" by The Momas & the Papas.  Thomas played guitar and I played trumpet.  At the end of the chorus I placed my horn down and approached Claire.

The question was asked shortly there after and each step since that day has been new.

We look forward to starting our journey together on March 22, 2014 and hope to see you there!
